We have sung 5 pieces by Morton Lauridsen. “O Magnum Mysterium” was the first, in 1997.
Many of us can probably think back to a magical moment during one of Consort’s seasons. I’d like to invite you to use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of this page with one of yours, which we can include in a future “Season of the Day”.
To start this, I will share my favorite moment: One reason I like to sing in choral groups is because we don’t always sing our best at the concert. (Maybe I shouldn’t share that dark secret!?) Sometimes we peak during one of the final rehearsals. And being present when that happens is one of the perks of being a singer. At the end of a three hour rehearsal in Stewart Chapel we had a few extra moments. Allan decided that we should run through “O Magnum” one last time. As we sang in the darkened chapel it all came together in a way that sent chills up my spine. The echoing harmonies blended and mixed with the chapel acoustics that this piece was meant for. Words really can’t describe it. You had to be there. Jon Curtis
