Have you ever wanted to sing in a crypt? Actually, it was more like a church basement, brightly decorated, but there were some vaults along the sides of the large room. It was under the Parroquia María Auxiliadora in Rosario Argentina.
The local choir, Coro Estable de Rosario, sang (North) American spirituals. As with all of the local choruses we met in Argentina, they have a significant history and online presence, with CDs and other special credits.
Our video today is Stacy Gibbs’ “Didn’ My Lord Deliver Daniel.” Among the scenes of Rosario are columns at Independence Park, a mud nest of the Hornero bird, a Falkland Islands Memorial pool, and an eternal flame at the National Flag Memorial. In the video the flame becomes a backdrop for Daniel’s fiery pit.
Oh, Lordy, if I could, you know I surely would stan’ on de rock where Moses stood.
Didn’t my Lord deliver Daniel, then why not a-every man?
He delivered Daniel from the lion’s den, Jonah from the belly of the whale,
an’ the Hebrew chillun from the fiery furnace then why not a-every man?
Didn’t my Lord deliver Daniel, then why not a-every man?
I set my foot on de gospel ship an’ de ship begin to sail,
an’ it landed me down on Caanan’s shore an’ I’m nevuh comin’ back anymo’.
Didn’t my Lord deliver Daniel, then why not a-every man?
The wind blows east an’ the wind blows wes’, it blows like the Judgmen’ day,
an evr’y poor sinnuh that nevuh did pray will be glad to pray that day.
Didn’t my Lord deliver Daniel, then why not a-every man?
