August 10: Morris – Open the Window Mister Noahy, 1997

Jon CurtisSeason of the Day, SOTD - August

Our virtual Consort week begins!

MONDAY NIGHT REHEARSAL

On this night we attempt to get through at least half of the repertoire.  We sometimes do not make it.  But there is one phenomenon that often happens, depending on how difficult the encore is. We either finally get around to rehearsing the encore, or it is the last time that we go over it!  So, today’s entree is our encore from 1997, “Open the Window Mister Noahy,” arranged by Norman Morris.

It really shows off Fay Mane’s piano playing.  It also reveals that Allan’s antics around encores have been happening since the earliest days of Consort!

Suggestion: To make this virtual Monday night rehearsal experience a bit more real, be ready to open your favorite beverage and vote on something important, in your own “Board Meeting” after you have listened to the encore!

Person of the Day: Lucinda Ray
Lucinda has been our Consort Week snack organizer for many years.  And recently she has taken over for Bob Friestad in organizing our Workshop lunches, getting signups, purchasing the food, setting it out, cleaning up, and collecting the fees with help from Phyllis Mart.

Because our Consort Week rehearsals run for three hours (7-10pm) every night, we have a break halfway through.  Some of us old-timers remember the early days when we had to bring our own snacks.  But now Lucinda puts together a sign-up sheet to recruit 20 people to volunteer to bring snacks, which states: “Each person who signs up should bring two large containers of drinks OR two packages of cookies. Cups will be provided.”  She then sends reminders, helps clean up after each break, and makes sure the volunteers take any leftovers back home!

Open the window!  Open the window, open wide!
Open the window, Mister Noahy.  Open the window, open wide.
No more rain is falling, God is sweetly calling, “Let the little bird come inside.”

Oh the dove she sighted an olive, Oh the dove she sighted a tree.
Oh the dove she flew to the olive and brought a branch to me.

Oh the rain it fell for a season; Forty days and nights long and dark,
Oh the rain it fell for a season, while God steered Noahy’s Ark.

One more time let’s try to open the window, Mister Noahy.
Open the window, open wide.
No more rain is falling, God is sweetly calling, “Let the little bird come inside.”
