Singing in Hawaii with Allan

Allan Petker News about Other Groups

Dear Singers:

You may have heard whispers about an opportunity to sing in Hawaii, in May of 2023.  I am very pleased to announce that it is official, and I hope you can all join me for the event.

We hope to have a choir of more than 60 singers performing my new “Dona Nobis Pacem” with members of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra and world-class soloists in Honolulu, Hawaii from May 17-22, 2023.  The “Dona Nobis Pacem” is a 6-movement, 30-minute work on the theme of social justice that was commissioned by David Irvine and the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Rosa.

  1. Light (Lux aeterna…)
  2. Justice (texts by Helen Keller and Pope Francis)
  3. Darkness (Lacrymosa, Shakespeare, Lizette Woodworth Reese)
  4. Hope (Navajo prayer, Emily Dickenson)
  5. Faith (Isaiah 40:31 “wings like eagles”)
  6. Peace (Abraham Lincoln, Dona Nobis Pacem)

This work has not yet been premiered, but plans are underway and will be announced in due course. Consort will include one movement in the program for this summer’s concert, and all Consort singers will be invited to sing in the premiere.

Meanwhile, in Hawaii, singers will also have the option of singing the Mozart Requiem with another conductor (to be announced). I hope you can join me for this wonderful six-day residency. By the registration deadline of October 1, 2022, we are hoping to assemble a national choir of 60 or more voices. The cost for this tour starts at $1,599 per person (based on residency choice) without airfare. Alison Henry of the Santa Clarita Master Chorale is our local tour manager. Please find the full itinerary and registration details below. Thanks, Allan
