Hawaii: Latest from Allan

Allan Petker News about Other Groups

Dear Consort Singers:

It is time to get serious about the performance opportunity to sing in Hawaii, in May of 2023.  The registration deadline is Oct. 31, 2022.

We hope to have a choir of more than 60 singers performing my new “Dona Nobis Pacem” with members of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra in Honolulu, Hawaii from May 16-21, 2023.  The cost for each participating singer is $999 (Travel and Residency not included).  Details of what are included can be viewed here.

The “Dona Nobis Pacem” is a 6-movement, 30-minute work on the theme of social justice that was commissioned by David Irvine and the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Rosa.

  1. Light (Lux aeterna…)
  2. Justice (texts by Helen Keller and Pope Francis)
  3. Darkness (Lacrymosa, Shakespeare, Lizette Woodworth Reese)
  4. Hope (Navajo prayer, Emily Dickenson)
  5. Faith (Isaiah 40:31 “wings like eagles”)
  6. Peace (Abraham Lincoln, Dona Nobis Pacem)

I am happy to provide access to a PDF of the choral score and a midi recording.  The first movement was recently premiered by Consort Chorale, and that mp3 is also available (please understand it is a live, unbalanced recording). You can access these at this Dropbox.

Additionally, in Hawaii, singers will also have the option of singing the Mozart Requiem (at no additional cost) with another conductor (to be announced). While the exact rehearsal schedule cannot be confirmed until after sufficient registration numbers are reached, rehearsals with me and the “Dona Nobis Pacem” will most likely be on the 17th and 18th, with a performance on the evening of the 18th.  The Mozart will be presented on the 20th.

I hope you can join me for this wonderful opportunity. Allan
