Many of you will remember singing the first movement on my big cantata, “A Song for St. Cecilia” with Consort in 2019. It starts “From harmony, from heavenly harmony.” Finally, the entire work is getting its premiere the weekend after Thanksgiving, Dec. 2 & 3, in Palo Alto and Campbell, respectively. This is a huge event for me and the culmination of decades of thought and creative energy. Rehearsals have gone very well and I’m looking forward to a wonderful performance of what I think will be a very successful composition. Certainly I’ve received a lot of positive feedback from the performers.
It would be an honor if I were to see some of my dear Consort colleagues at one of the two performances! I know it’s all the way in Palo Alto, but perhaps you could form some carpools and make an outing of it together. I know that Ruthann is planning to attend the Friday concert and has said she could drive if some wanted to ride with her. I would appreciate having some supportive choral music lovers in the audience! I’ll be giving a pre-concert talk before each performance at 7:30. The program begins with music by Henry Purcell and Antonin Dvorák.
Congratulations and thanks to David Raub for becoming our new board president for the continued outlook for future fun summers with our Consort family.
